Brief Winter Trip To CoCo Key Beach...

Yes....that's right...a family outing to the tropics. Lazy River, pools, and water slides....with the ice still hanging on the trees! It was a wonderful respite for the girls especially...... and it is all just a 15 minute drive down Rt 16 at the newly refurbished and upgraded Cherry Valley Lodge! (Eat your heart Sam and Wes!) I'm guessing they don't have the likes of this over there in Turkey or even within close reach of Little Eloise.....YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO COME HERE FOR A VISIT!
The BIG attraction at CoCo Beach is the three water slides that start with a 3 story climb (good for Grandpa's workout regimen!) and then...THE RUSH...of swirling down these
L O N G tubes that actually run on the outside of the building..and the subsequent SPLASH into the POOL. Needless to say.... talking the girls into such a heart pounding experience was not an easy task. One HUGE factor tipped the scale to GET aggreemet to try it. The picture would appear on our blog to be seen in Incirlik Turkey by her Dad! And who was the first to try....the ever adventuresome Addy....who is seen above on her (our) maiden voyage!
Not to be outdone...Zoe launched out on the treacherous journey...ALONE!
....AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!...(especially Grandma and Grandpa who love every opportunity we can get to put smiles on Granddaughter's faces!)

Winter Lingers..

In 2004 an ice storm took down 23 branches from our huge white pine in Bill's Botanical Garden. The ice storm last week caused the limbs to bow beneath the weight of 3/4 inch of ice. Luckily (at least so far...since it's still there) we have only lost 3 minor branches (not that there is any such thing as a minor branch in Bill's Botanical!). I resorted to the use of crutch 2 X 4 props to uphold the branches that hang so gracefully out over the waterfalls. Oh come dear 35 - 40 degrees to melt the ice and lift the weight and restore our bending bows!

Aren't Plants Amazing....

Case in point...this Rhododendron iutside our kitchen window. In a few months it will be bursting with bloom even though it has been enduring adversity..
Is there a lesson here for us???
The view from the kitchen window has been obscured by ice for a while. Below is a view trough the icy fence up into the icy woods to see the 4 shivering Cardinals (can you find them?) waiting for me to vacate the area so thay can resume feeding!

This One's For Wes!

There's only one thing better than watching a good high school basketball game and that is watching a good high school basketball game with your son! Wes and I have been watching a number of games together this season and on the evening of the day he gets back from Turkey, the 19 and 1 Newark Wildcats will make their appearance in the Columbus Coliseum. We will enjoy ...TOGETHER...watching scenes like this shot caught last night by the Newark Adviocate. Oh...by the way...if you couldn't find the 4 cardinals in the previous blog...maybe you can find "Waldo" in this shot.
Get the job done over there, Son, an get back here to watch my Alma Mater go to the State Tournament!

I Wonder Who's Out There Looking At Our Blog???

So once a week I get a report on how many people have "hit" my blog and where they are from. ....but not WHO YOU ARE! Many I can guess such as Sam and Mel from Malakoff, Meg from Virginia Beach, Kirby from Coshocton, Elizabeth from Wooster, Salle from LaCross, Wisconsin, Chloe from Singapore, etc.
BUT WHO'S CHECKING IN FROM... Bejing, China; PORTUGAL, Commerce, Georgia; MaryDel, Delaware; Littleton, Colorado or even all those from NEWARK, OHIO??? (THERE WERE 550 HITS ON THE BLOG IN THE LAST MONTH!)
Do me a favor...GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK!

Guess Who Bumped Into Me (OUCH!) The Other Evening..???

Yes....face to face....eye ball to eye ball......... with Buster Douglas! (The huge Dude who did this to "Iron" Mike Tyson!)
Buster, FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, has a boxing camp/farm in the Utica school district and he attended the Utica /Johnstown basketball game. A bit of trivia...He is only one of two non-band members to ever dot the "i" in script Ohio. Do you know the other one??
